Our school year kicks off next month, and, starting today, you can get tickets and subscriptions to 2017–18 concerts and events at the Colburn School. The season brings together Colburn’s students, extraordinary faculty, and spectacular guest conductors and musicians on the school’s flagship Colburn Orchestra and Colburn Chamber Music Society series, as well as Gibson Dunn Rush Hour and special one-time engagements.

“The Colburn School continues to provide the highest quality performing arts education for passionate students of all ages and abilities with a new academic season that cultivates artistry and learning from the classroom to the stage,” says CEO Sel Kardan. “Being a student at the Colburn School means being part of a greater community, one that reaches beyond the campus, to venues throughout our hometown of Los Angeles, and throughout the industry at large, including collaborations with the distinguished special guests joining us this year. We hope people enjoy the many inspiring programs we are excited to offer.”

A compelling roster of guest artists, including Emanuel Ax, the Calidore String Quartet, Lynn Harrell, and more join students and faculty for Colburn Chamber Music Society. This intimate series in Zipper Hall features everything from well-known classical chamber works to contemporary pieces by living composers.

The Colburn Orchestra, our flagship ensemble under Musical Director Yehuda Gilad, will present favorites old and new, like Beethoven’s “Eroica,” Elgar’s Enigma Variations, and music by Saint-Saens, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Mozart, John Adams. The orchestra performs under the baton of Yehuda Gilad, and guest conductors Courtney Lewis, Edo de Waart, and Thierry Fischer. Student soloists on the cusp of stardom shine in this series, which features cellist Youna Choi, violinist Aubree Oliverson, violinst Hao Zhou, flutist Joachim Becerra Thomsen, and pianist Hyejin Kim.

Audiences can once again skip the traffic on select Thursdays with Gibson Dunn Rush Hour. Each themed performance features Colburn School students in Thayer Hall, and concertgoers can mingle with the musicians in a complimentary post-concert reception.

Throughout the season, the world-renowned performing artists on Colburn School faculty members take the stage with friends and students in the Faculty Recital series. Plus, Artist-in-Residence Jean-Yves Thibaudet performs a special collaboration with students from across the school in An Evening with Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
