Requirements for In-Person Instruction, Group Classes, and Ensembles

Masks

Indoor masking is not required at Colburn, however it is highly recommended by the LA County Department of Public Health due to increased circulation of new Omicron strains, the high transmission of other respiratory illnesses including the flu and respiratory syncytial virus or RSV.

There may be exceptions in which masks will be required, such as some instructors may continue requiring masks in their studios and classrooms. Therefore, students should check with their instructor(s) regarding their masking policy.

Those exposed to the coronavirus will continue to be required to wear a mask indoors for 10 days following exposure and masks will be required through Day 10 for those who have recovered from COVID-19 (tested negative after day 5).

Testing is required for ALL students

  • Students will be required to show proof of a negative COVID test taken within 24 hours before lessons, classes, and rehearsals. Please bring proof of a negative test on your first day – self-administered tests are acceptable.
  • Families may use the professional testing services available on campus Monday through Friday, 9 am-5 pm.
  • Students unable to use the professional testing services on Colburn’s campus will be provided with a self-test when needed from their teacher or Ensemble Coordinator. Each week, students are required to show a negative test taken within 24 hours prior to any lesson, class, or ensemble rehearsal taking place on campus.

Parents required to be in classes (Suzuki Group Classes/Lessons and Early Childhood Programs)

  • Both the student and required parent will be provided with a weekly at-home test at each class or lesson. Students ages 4 and above are required to take a weekly test and must show proof of a negative COVID test taken within 24 hours before each class or lesson.
  • Professional testing services are also available on campus Monday through Friday, 9 am-5 pm.

Any student, parent, or guardian who is displaying COVID symptoms or is not feeling well should NOT come to campus.

Effective August 1 Colburn began a new contract year with the County of Los Angeles for testing and accordingly, everyone who takes a COVID-19 test must register or re-register in the Primary testing database. Students and required parents are encouraged to re-register prior to testing on campus. The registration links are below:

Requirements for In-Person Instruction

    • Students currently enrolled MUST use Colburn’s testing program and receive a negative test result prior to entering the teaching space—whether that be indoors or outdoors. Please be sure to arrive on campus with enough time to complete a test and receive your results. At a minimum, students should take a test administered at Colburn once a week. Should a student wish to test more than once a week at Colburn, that is possible.
    • Masks must be worn at all times.
    • Any student or faculty member displaying symptoms of COVID should not come to campus. All existing protocols remain in place; visitors to campus must wear masks, observe social distancing, and wash their hands frequently.
    • If lesson instruction or classes occur at a time when on-site testing is not available, students may come to campus if free of COVID symptoms and may test after their lesson or class.
    • Parents who wish to accompany their students to their lesson(s) or classes must be vaccinated and must be boosted within two weeks of eligibility for a booster shot.
    • Students who have recently contracted COVID must provide a negative test prior to their first day of in person instruction to cspa@colburnschool.edu.
