Classes for the Community School of Performing Arts begin on August 18. In preparation for the new school year, we would like to invite you to our Welcome Weekend on August 18 and 19.
During this weekend, there will be auditions for a number of our ensembles, assessment for placement with private instructors, information sessions, as well as opportunities for families to meet with some of our faculty and department chairs. Welcome Weekend is designed to guide those interested in learning more about the incredible programs the Colburn School has to offer. Audition for Introduction to Chamber Music

The Introduction to Chamber Music program consists of small chamber ensembles and a monthly group class for intermediate level students with little or no prior chamber music experience that will prepare students for the Edelman Chamber Music Institute. Learn more about how Dalcroze Eurythmics is the exploration of movement, solfege, and improvisation. The class encourages students’ active listening skills and immediate physical responsiveness. Through the class activities, students internalize the music, which promotes confident and accurate music learning experiences. A general information session will be led by instructor Mari Izumi.

Our music theory curriculum was developed to enhance and support instrumental study. Learn more about sight singing and solfege, and how it is incorporated in our classes from our curriculum architect Kathy Sawada. Ms.Sawada will give you an idea of what to expect in our theory classes from testing and placement to in-class activities and lesson plans.

Michael Stevens, Chair of our Voice department, will hold a “sing and greet” with prospective students. This is not an audition, simply an opportunity to meet with Mr. Stevens and members of our voice faculty. If you would like to sing a song, we welcome that, but it is not a requirement.
