Colburn Virtual Piano Seminar

June 14–26, 2021
For advanced pianists (no age minimum)

Tuition: $2,000, plus $40 application fee
Auditing fee: $300, includes $40 application fee

During this two-week online seminar, piano students will receive expert instruction from Colburn’s talented faculty as well as many renowned guest artists. Participants will play in a weekly performance class, receive three private lessons each week, and take part in master classes, which include a Q&A with the artist. Students will also participate in specialized workshops on topics including music by BIPOC composers, period instruments, and piano mechanics.

The seminar will take place online via Zoom, which requires a strong internet connection, USB microphone and computer/tablet. All lessons and classes are available to audit.

In-person lessons: The Colburn School is committed to the health and safety of our community. With approval from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and if in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, in-person lessons on campus may be available to local participants.

Piano Seminar Competition

Participants may enter the piano seminar competition for a chance to win up to $1,500 USD. Video submissions for the competition are due Friday, July 2. Submission instructions will be shared with accepted participants.

Submission requirements: work(s) of choice for a maximum total of 20 minutes
$1,000 USD for Best Performance
$500 USD for Best Performance of Work by a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Composer
