Community School harpist Annette Lee and Music Academy pianist Tyler Kim have each won the Grand Prize in the Music Center’s Spotlight Awards.

Community School harpist Annette Lee and Music Academy pianist Tyler Kim have each won the Grand Prize in the Music Center’s Spotlight Awards and will perform at Walt Disney Concert Hall on June 5. Music Academy cellist Kristi Kim received the Honorable Mention.

Artist Diploma clarinetist Angelo Quail was appointed to a position in the New World Symphony and will be a Fellow starting in the fall of 2018.

A Community School trio consisting of pianist Samuel Glicklich, cellist Anna Beaver, and clarinetist Javier Morales Martinez has advanced to the semifinal round of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, as well as M-Prize, University of Michigan’s international chamber arts competition.

Community School student Hannah Franklin won first prize in the Regional Finals of the 2018 August Wilson Monologue Competition on March 5, earning a $500 scholarship. She will now compete in the national semifinal round with 23 other students from across the country in New York City on May 7 at the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway.

Three Community School students won positions in Carnegie Hall’s 2018 National Youth Orchestra. They will be conducted by Community School alumnus Michael Tilson Thomas and will share the stage with Colburn artist-in-residence Jean-Yves Thibaudet. They include flutist Khoi Dinh, bassist Ethan Moffitt, and clarinetist Javier Morales Martinez.

Mei Hotta, a Community School cellist, has advanced to the semifinal round of the Stulberg International String Competition.

Community School violinist Sofia Miranda appeared on NBC’s Little Big Shots on March 25.

Music Academy pianist and violinist Ray Ushikubo performed the Grieg Concerto with Los Angeles Philharmonic in March.

Three Dance Academy alumni and current students were sighned to ballet companies. Alumna Anatalia Hordov will join the Corps de Ballet of San Francisco Ballet, student Isabel Macgill signed as a Full Member of BalletMet2, and alumna Juliet Prine signed as an Apprentice with Pacific Northwest Ballet.
