The Suzuki method involves parent participation both in lessons and daily practices at home, and requires a major commitment of time.

All students in the Suzuki Strings Program must enroll in weekly private lessons, as well as weekly group classes. Individual private lessons for beginners are typically 30 minutes. Continuing and advanced students may be required to enroll for longer lessons, as determined by the instructor.
Transfer Students: If your child is currently studying or has had any previous lessons, whether Suzuki or traditional, they are considered a “transfer” student. Parents interested in having their child transfer into our Suzuki Strings Program must fill out an Inquiry Form with the Community School Registration Office.
Suzuki Violin and Cello Study for Beginners: This program is designed for students who have had no previous violin or cello experience. A child must be at least 4 years old and no older than 6 by January 15 to be eligible for the coming fall term. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.
The application deadline for beginners is January 15 for the coming fall term. Late applications may be considered based on availability.
1. Submit an Inquiry Form Fill out an inquiry form by January 15 for the coming fall term.
Please specify your interest in the Suzuki Strings Program. It is important for us to have your complete contact information, including your preferred email. All parents who have submitted an inquiry form will be contacted by the Suzuki program coordinator and given information about the application process for the coming fall term.
2. Observe Suzuki Group Classes and Private Lessons Observations, typically scheduled from January through March by the Suzuki program coordinator, will give you a better understanding of the Suzuki method and the commitment necessary to make music study a rewarding and successful experience for you and your child. Two group class observations and at least one private lesson observation is required.
3. Attend a Parent Talk A panel of our experienced parents will speak about the responsibilities, challenges, and positive experiences of guiding their children through our program. This is typically scheduled in March and will be your chance to ask questions.
4. Participate in an Introductory Class Our Introductory Class, usually in April or May, will give children and parents a chance to participate in musical activities presented by the faculty. These classes give us the opportunity to assess the readiness of your child to participate successfully in our program at this point in time.
5. Enrollment Once accepted, the parent or guardian must register the child for both private and group lessons. Students who are new to the Community School must register in person at the Community School Registration Office.
