June 15–19, 2020
10 am–4 pm
A week-long exploration of different modern dance techniques and choreographic methods. Advanced modern students will encounter a Master Artist and working professional each day. Past guest faculty have included Stina Ahlberg, Rachel Berman, Katherine Fisher, Jmy James, Banu Ogan, Andrew Pearson, and Rudy Perez.
Students have been exposed to a range of techniques including Release Technique, Taylor, Cunningham, and Flying Low, as well as a variety of compositional tools including chance procedures, improvisational, and the use of rhythmic and spatial patterning. Dancers will also have the opportunity to put their new techniques into motion by choreographing their own short work, culminating by an informal showing.

The workshop will explore beginner pointe technique and pre-pointe strengthening. Each day includes a ballet technique class. Students approved by the Ballet Chair for pointe work will wear pointe shoes for part of the session; others remain in ballet slippers for the duration. Students must bring a Theraband.
June 22–July 10, 2020

The All Dance Camp is a three-week comprehensive study of all of Colburn’s dance genres including ballet, modern, and tap. It is open to Intermediate Beginner level dancers ages 9–13. Students should be at the intermediate level in at least one of these genres of dance. Morning classes will alternate between Modern and Ballet Technique taught by Tamsin Carlson (Modern Chair) and ballet faculty. Afternoons will alternate between Tap and Musical Theater Dance with Denise Scheerer (Tap/Musical Theater Chair). Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in all three weeks at the discounted price.

In this summer intensive workshop, advanced teen tap students will take their skills to the next level, improving their timing and accuracy while working on their style and stamina. Come and train with some of the leading professional tap dancers currently working in Los Angeles, with accompaniment by drummer and percussionist Blake Colie. Past faculty have included Melinda Sullivan, Sarah Reich, and Joseph Wiggan.
July 27–August 7, 2020
10 am–5 pm
Students will work with highly trained instructors to improve their skills and help them gain a competitive edge that will be invaluable for future auditions and work in the theater. Students will have classes in dance, acting and voice. This two week intensive will focus on a number of excerpts from musicals to be presented on Friday for an informal performance.

For the audition, please be prepared to perform two songs from a musical (a ballad and up-tempo, with sheet music for piano accompaniment), to present a monologue (up to a minute in length), and to do a group dance audition.
