Application Deadline: December 1, 2021
At this time, the Colburn School is not offering in-person campus tours or in-person prospective student lessons. We will reassess this policy in mid-October, taking into account the health and safety of the community and the guidelines in Los Angeles County. Please check back at that time for any updates.
At the Colburn Conservatory of Music, we know there are a lot of factors to consider, everything from faculty and facilities to application processes and costs.

The relationship between teacher and student is the heart of a musician’s education. At Colburn, we have a caring, dedicated faculty committed to making you the best performer possible. Our teachers are not only top instructors in their areas of expertise, but many also enjoy active professional careers. They know first-hand what it takes to succeed and are ready to share their experience and knowledge with you.
The Colburn Conservatory of Music is more than just a school. We’re a community, and because we are a select institution with a small student body, we’re able to better get to know you and your goals.
The Colburn Orchestra offers opportunities to advance your performance skills and collaborate with peers under the direction of Music Director Yehuda Gilad and guest conductors like Esa-Pekka Salonen, Ludovic Morlot, Stéphane Denève, and James Conlon.
Our graduates have found success with orchestra jobs, competition prizes, and teaching positions. Now we want to help you achieve success, however you define it. Our faculty and staff, along with our dedicated career department make sure you know about all the aspects of becoming a professional, including the audition process, competitions, and advanced educational opportunities.
You couldn’t ask for a better location to enjoy the Los Angeles arts scene. We’re only blocks away from the Walt Disney Concert Hall (home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic), Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (home to the Los Angeles Opera), REDCAT, The Music Center, and Grand Performances at California Plaza. Also in the neighborhood are the Museum of Contemporary Art, L.A. Public Library, and The Broad. There are many other highlights–including the beaches and great weather–that make the City of Angels a dream destination for tourists from all over the world.
We know how important it is for students to have access to the necessary facilities. Our 45 practice rooms are accessible 24 hours a day. Also, there are three halls perfectly designed for recitals and chamber music. Plus, we offer comfortable and furnished residential suites for students to live on campus.
The Colburn Conservatory is an incredible value: all students receive full tuition scholarship, as well as grants that cover housing and meals. We’re the only music school in the US that offers this comprehensive of a scholarship package for all accepted students. This allows our students to focus on becoming an exceptional professional musician without the burden of how to fund their education.
