Katherine Cowgill began her ballet training at Minnesota Dance Theater in Minneapolis under the training of Lise Houlton and Marjorie Thompson, learning a strong basis of classical ballet technique and contemporary dance. At age 15, Katherine auditioned for the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet, and was accepted into the winter session. There she was taught by the renowned faculty, including Suki Schorer, Kay Mazzo, Susan Pilarre, Jock Soto, and Darci Kistler. And she received opportunities to perform soloist roles in Balanchine and Wheeldon works in the 2010 Workshop. She also performed with New York City Ballet in Susan Stroman’s Double Feature. Developing a love for the Balanchine Technique, and a passion for teaching, Katherine joined the teaching assistant program at the School of American Ballet, working with the young students of the school.

Katherine joined the Los Angeles Ballet in 2010 as a corps de ballet member. Over her four year period of dancing, she performed many corps and soloist roles, including Swan Lake, Concerto Barocco, and new works by LA choreographers Kitty McNamee and Josie Walsh.

After dealing with injuries, Katherine became the Ballet Mistress for the company. She rehearsed the corps de ballet, taught company class, and assisted repetituers of the Balanchine and Kylian Trusts, as well as guest choreographers.

She also performed the world premiere of RIFT, the collaboration of Kitty McNamee, with music composed by Anna Clyne, for the Cabrillo Music Festival in Santa Cruz, CA.
