Community School Victor Shlyakhtenko, pictured performing with the Colburn Youth Orchestra, recently won scholarships and competitions.

Community School pianist Victor Shlyakhtenko was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Chopin Foundation of the United States and also won first prize in the 2017 ENKOR International Music Competition.

Community School violinist Amy Sze was awarded the Sierra Summer Festival’s 2017 Horton-Kohl Award and will make her solo debut with the Eastern Sierra Symphony on August 11.

Community School clarinetists Andrew Chang and Javier Morales Martinez were two of the six finalists at the International Clarinet Association’s High School Solo Competition in Orlando last week, with Javier going on to win second prize.

Music Academy Ezra Shcolnik was accepted to the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program. The program offers high school composers the opportunity to work with acclaimed musicians and composers, and have their works performed by the LA Phil, chamber groups, and other orchestras.

William Wasson, a 2015 Performance Studies Certificate recipient, joined the double bass section of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Alicia Lee, who earned her Performance Studies Certificate in 2008, was appointed Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Calder Quartet, including Benjamin Jacobson and Andrew Bulbrook, violins; Jonathan Moerschel, viola; Eric Byers, cello, joined the Pentatone Label roster.
