Student Accomplishments, November 2018

Community School violinist Jean Lih, a Herbert Zipper Scholar, was named one of Los Angeles County’s Distinguished Young Women of California, Talent Winner.

Violinist Kevin Miura, a Music Academy student and Community School alumnus, will perform with the South Coast Symphony on their “Koncerts for Kids” program. Kevin was chosen to perform after winning the orchestra’s “Young Stars of the Future” competition.

Community School violinist Jean Lih, a Herbert Zipper Scholar, was named one of Los Angeles County’s Distinguished Young Women of California, Talent Winner. The organization is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.

Community School pianist Victor Shlyakhtenko won first place in the Parness Concerto Competition and will be performing with the Culver City Symphony.

Apsara Kasiraman, who studies in the Community School, is the youngest person to be accepted to the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program for 2018–19.

Two Community School students won top prizes in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival held in Long Beach: Violinist Tommu Su won first place in the Open Baroque Category 3 and Caleb Schweiger won first place in the Violin Qualified Category 11.

Conrad Jones, who graduated with his Performance Studies Certificate in 2013, joined the trumpet faculty of DePauw University in Indiana.
