Community School composer Apsara Kasiraman’s piece “traction.” was performed at the Young Artist Summer Program at Curtis Summerfest in Philadelphia.

Conservatory violinist Charlotte Marckx (PD) was named a 2019 Davidson Fellow.

Alumna Signe Somer (Clarinet, MM ’16) has started a new job as Co-Principal Clarinet with the Den Norske Opera and Ballet in Oslo.

Graduate Chamber Ensemble-in-Residence the Viano String Quartet won joint first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition.

Music Academy pianist Carey Byron was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2019 MostArts Young Pianist Competition.

Katie Thiroux (Community School alumna and current Community School faculty) will perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival as band leader, bassist, and vocalist for the Next Generation Women in Jazz Combo, featuring top high school jazz musicians from across the US.

Anna Kolotylina (Conservatory ’16) will be joining the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra as Principal Viola.

Bassist Miles Mosley (Community School ’99) and keyboardist Brandon Coleman (Community School alumnus) are currently on the road with Kamasi Washington with two shows at the Ace Theater in Los Angeles on September 19 and 20.

Conservatory student James Seymour (Trombone, PSC) was appointed Assistant Principal/2nd Trombone of the San Antonio Symphony.

Music Academy violinist Kevin Miura will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major with the Michigan Philharmonic on October 5.

Pianist Donald Vega (Community School ’93) is coming to Los Angeles to perform with the Ron Carter Jazz Trio at Catalina Bar and Grill September 4–7.

Saxophonist Carly Stock (Community School ’18) was appointed the first alto saxophonist in the University of North Texas Six O’clock Lab Band.

Community School pianist Alexander Licudine performed at the Showcase Recital Performance during the Sulzbach-Rosenberg Music Festival in Germany.

Community School violinists Gabriel Tsai and Sarah Liu were both winners of the MTAC San Fernando Valley West Branch Concerto Competition.

Community School cellist Elliot Yun placed first in his category at Southwestern Youth Music Festival.

Violinist Leila Josefowicz (Community School ’91) will be opening the London Symphony Orchestra’s season with Sir Simon Rattle on September 14.

Community School pianist Sophia Glicklich was a first place medal winner, MTAC Orange County West Romantic Theme Festival

Community School pianist Dylan Iskandar, a senior intern in the Classics Alive Ambassador Program, organized a concert at The Kensington senior living center in Redondo Beach. Musicians who are part of the Young Artists Ambassador Program were invited to showcase their talents in concerts. Dylan’s brother, Winston Iskandar who is also a member of the Young Artists Ambassador Program performed at the concert.

Trombonist Andrew Munoz (Community School ‘15) was appointed the first trombonist at the University of North Texas One O’clock Lab Band.

Kyle Kremer (Trumpet, MM ’15) successfully defended his PhD in Astronomy at Northwestern University, and one of his recent papers was written up in Forbes.

Pianist Victor Gould (Community School ’04) was featured in DownBeat Magazine for his album, Thoughts Become Things.

Alexander Noice (Community School ’02) has released the album Noice on Orenda Records.
