This is a program for the triple threat artist to deepen their skill level in voice, dance, and acting, and to provide the skills needed to seamlessly shift back and forth between the three. Our High School Musical Theatre program meets on Sundays 1–4:30 pm and helps to prepare serious Musical Theatre artists be competitive in an ever-growing field and prepares them for college auditions.

Our weekly workshop includes a full dance class that rotates jazz, modern and ballet dance throughout the year. This is followed by a two-hour session that concentrates on group song repertoire, acting, and choreography.  Musical Theatre students are instructed on how to connect detailed acting skills to the song and dance. The workshop presents two performances per year.

The Musical Theatre Dance class can be taken separately from the Musical Theatre workshop offering and does not include a performance. No auditions are required for this class. However, auditions are required for the full Musical Theatre Workshop.

Audition Requirements

Auditions for the High School Musical Theatre Workshop is comprised of three components: voice, acting, and dance. A successful audition is based on the applicant’s performance in all three components. Please review the audition requirements for each component below.

Voice:Two songs in contrasting styles memorized and sung in their entirety, no cuts. Please bring sheet music in your key for the accompanist. No at-sight transpositions.

Acting: One memorized 90 second contemporary monologue, not from a musical. The character should be no older than 25. If you have a second monologue, bring it just in case.

Again. Monologue must be memorized. Focus on the truth and life of the piece, not on the results, tempos, how you sound or on “seeming natural.” Instead, live it out truthfully. Work from your own personal sense of truth, and from your own heart and passion.

Dance:Group dance warm up with a short dance combination learned in class. Afterwards, breaking into small groups.

The audition will begin with a full dance class 1 pm–2:30 pm. Musical Theatre Artists will break into small groups for the combination learned in class. Single audition times will be scheduled for each candidate to present their songs and monologue following dance.

Auditions will take place on Sunday, May 19thSubmit an inquiry to sign up for the audition or learn more.
