Student Accomplishments, January 2019

Community School pianist Victor Shlyakhtenko won first place in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition Concerto Division and the South Coast Symphony’s Young STARS of the Future competition in the Conducting category.

Conservatory trombonist Connor Rowe won the Lätszch Trombone Festival Competition and a Lätszch alto trombone after a week of intensive master classes at the Landesmusikakademie in Heek, Germany.

Community School pianist Victor Shlyakhtenko won first place in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition Concerto Division, fifth place in Division III for ages 15-16, and honorable mention in Division VI for longer works. Victor was also the winner of the South Coast Symphony’s Young STARS of the Future competition in the Conducting category, and will conduct Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet with the South Coast Symphony on January 25.

2011 Bachelor of Music harpist Kayla Torrez Chang is graduating from medical school and has been accepted to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as a surgical resident.

Community School pianist Alexander Licudine received first place in Music Teachers Association of California Orange County West Piano Solo Competition.

Tap and musical theater student Nicholas Podany began rehearsals for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway as Albus Potter.

Community School pianist Kai Yuan won third place in Pasadena Piano Sonata/Sonatina Workshop.

Community School violist Andy Park will participate in the New York String Orchestra Seminar, which will culminate in a final concert at Carnegie Hall. He was also a semi-finalist in the Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition.

Community School pianist Vivienne Hong-Harutyunyan won third place in New West Symphony Quick Bowman Youth Piano Competition.

Community School violinist Kate Lee was a finalist in the South Coast Symphony’s Young STARS of the Future competition and will perform with the South Coast Symphony on January 25.
