The Colburn Community School of Performing Arts has an open-enrollment policy, which means most classes are available to students without mandatory auditions. Still, classes are in high demand and sometimes enrollment is limited. Keep reading for more specific information on the registration process.
New Student Registration
For spring 2020, open enrollment for all students begins January 6.
If you have never been enrolled at the Colburn School, or if your attendance has lapsed for at least one semester, then you qualify as a new student. Space in the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts is limited and priority is given to returning students.
All new students must register for classes in person. Although the calendar year is divided into three academic terms, new students are welcome to register any time during the semester. New student registration for the 2019–20 academic year opened on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Enrollment, however, will depend on timing and space availability.
Continuing Student Registration
For spring 2020, priority registration for continuing students is December 9–21.
Returning students must register at the beginning of each term, fall, spring, and summer. Continuing student registration for the 2019–20 academic year opened on Friday, May 17, 2019. As a continuing student, you’ll be given one week of priority registration status.
If you choose to sign up for private lessons during either the fall or spring terms, we require a minimum of 16 lessons per semester or or 32 lessons for the academic year between August and May. If you wish to take fewer lessons, you must obtain written approval from the instructor and include it with your registration documents. In the summer term, you may take eight lessons or less with approval from the private teacher.
Continuing students are encouraged to register online, via email, or fax, but must register in-person if one or more of the following circumstances apply:
- Student is a financial aid or merit scholarship recipient
- Student is requesting payment plans
- Student is enrolling in the early childhood program
